Consider the 2018 Ford Edge over the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Edge is more affordable to maintain, and gets better gas mileage. The Edge gets a city/ highway gas mileage of 21/29 mpg, while the Grand Cherokee gets 19/26 mpg, so plan to frequent the gas station more often with the Grand Cherokee.
The Edge is equipped with SYNC®3, which allows you to make phone calls, and use music, podcast and audiobook apps while driving with voice-activated technology. SYNC®3 is compatible with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. This feature is not available in the Grand Cherokee.
In case of an accident, the Edge uses a GPS response system that can contact 911 for you when a collision is detected, even if you’re incapacitated.
The FordPass™ phone app is your personal assistant. Find the best fuel prices, easy to access parking and schedule service at necessary intervals, all in the palm of your hand. Additionally, if you have any questions regarding the Edge, you can use the app to contact a Ford guide who can help you out.
The Grand Cherokee does not have an exterior keypad, but the Edge does in case you misplace your keys, or even lock them inside the car. You can still get inside this way.
The Edge uses active grille shutters to help further improve your fuel economy. This works automatically, so you don’t have to think about it. These shutters close off air flow and reduce drag if less engine cooling is needed. You won’t find this feature in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
To keep the air flowing in your car on a hot day, you can remotely lower your front windows. You can only do this with the Grand Cherokee at an extra cost, and with cell phone reception when connected to their Uconnect service.
The Edge also has driver-assist features2, such as Active Park Assist (expertly parallel park), and a foot activated liftgate that comes in handy when carrying a lot of bags or cargo that you will not find in the Grand Cherokee.
With the rear seat up, the Edge provides 39.2 cu.ft. of cargo space and 73.4 cu.ft. of cargo space when the rear seat is folded flat. The Grand Cherokee only offers 36.3 cu.ft. and 68.3 cu.ft., respectively. The Edge also provides more leg room: 40.6 inches in both the front and rear seats, as compared to 40.3 inches in the front of the Jeep and 38.6 inches in the back.
