Sheridan Showdown: 2018 Ford F-150 vs. RAM 1500
Each and every year, the Ford F-150 and the RAM 1500 compete for claims of having the best pickup truck. While it’s true that Ford’s F-150 usually comes out on top, it has never been as true as the new 2018 Ford F-150 compared with 2018’s RAM 1500. This year’s new F-150 outmatches, outclasses and outperforms the new RAM 1500.
The 2018 Ford F-150 has a body that is made with heat-treated, high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy that significantly reduced the vehicle’s weight. This allowed engineers to increase gauge where needed to achieve extra strength without increasing the weight. The 700-lb. reduction in weight along with the second-generation 3.0 Power Stroke® engine allow for maximum power helping Ford F-150 win 2018’s Best-in-Class Payload rating. The 2018 Ford F-150’s 10-Speed Automatic Transmission help deliver extra power and delivers improved overall performance with enhanced acceleration at low to mid-range gears.
Auto Start-Stop Technology is a feature on all 2018 Ford F-150 engines. When you come to a stop, the engine shuts off to save fuel and restarts immediately when the brake is released. It is designed smart for truck applications. For example, Auto Start-Stop deactivates when it wouldn’t be needed such as when you’re towing a trailer or running in 4-wheel drive.
The 2018 Ford F-150 has a towing capacity of 13,200-lbs. and is equipped with numerous smart towing features. They include but are not limited to the following: Standard trailer sway control with AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®); Class Exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ which synchronizes both truck and trailer while backing up by turning a knob; Dynamic hitch assist with line-of-sight guide; smart trailer tow connector that alerts to connectivity issues plus lighting and battery problems; an 8″ productivity screen with trailer information; factory-installed trailer brake controller which synchronizes the truck and trailer brakes; and, finally, BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with trailer coverage that alerts when a vehicle is in your blind spot or alongside the trailer.
Top-of-the-line technology is integrated throughout the new 2018 Ford F-150. For example, the class-exclusive remote tailgate release that locks or unlocks the tailgate with the key fob or inside-door switch. Also, the 360-degree camera with split-view display which uses four cameras that enables you to see all sides of the truck by stitching the images together and displaying them on a center stack screen.
The new 2018 F-150 offers driving technologies to assist you in unexpected situations: Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection scans the road to detect a potential collision and if so there is both a visual warning and an audible alert. If still unnoticed the brakes can apply automatically. Also, on certain Ford F-150’s Lane-Keeping System is an optional feature which vibrates the steering wheel and/or gives torque sensations when you drift too close to a lane marker.
