The 2021 Ford Explorer comes standard with a 2.3L EcoBoost® engine mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This standard powertrain dishes out 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. With the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, you’ll not only access 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, but you’ll also achieve the SUV’s max tow rating: 5,600 pounds when properly equipped. There’s also a 3.3L Hybrid engine available.

For the best towing experience, the Ford Explorer comes standard with trailer sway control that helps keep your load in place even when heavy winds hit. To give you confidence both on and off the roads, the Explorer also has the option to add Hill Descent™ Control, Intelligent 4WD, and the Terrain Management System™.
