What To Do After You Buy
You’ve just purchased a new (or used and new to you) car at Sheridan Ford. Owning or leasing a car is an investment of both time and money. Once you leave the lot with your new sedan, SUV, truck or van, there are a few steps you’ll want to remember to do now that the car is in your possession.
Since you’ve purchased your vehicle at Sheridan Ford, we’ll help you handle this (buyers from out-of-state may have to visit their state’s DMV to properly finalize the registration of the vehicle). Remember, you cannot legally drive with an unregistered car, so it’s imperative to sort this out correctly as soon as possible.
Sheridan Ford will provide you with temporary tags and registration and send the paperwork to the Delaware DMV on your behalf.
In addition to registration, you must obtain insurance to drive your car legally. The dealer may be hesitant to drive off home from Sheridan Ford without proof of insurance. You likely already have insurance, unless this is your first Ford car. Your current insurance agency will likely cover you while you make the switch to the new car if you let them know while you’re still at the dealership. Furthermore, if you can provide your insurance agency with the new car’s VIN (vehicle identification number), they can set you up with a new policy before everything is finalized at the dealership.
Do not take maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual lightly. Proper care for your vehicle increases its longevity and will save you money down the line. For instance, the cost of skipping oil changes could result in extremely costly engine repair—like purchasing and installing a new engine. Like getting regular check-ups to maintain your health, getting regular tune ups will maintain your new cars health.
Even if you think skipping a recommended maintenance benchmark might save you money, it could end up costing you down the line. Take care of your car and schedule routine “check-ups” at the Sheridan Ford service department as needed!
