No other make and model can claim the same reputation as the Ford Explorer. For 28 years, it has outsold and continues to reign supreme over all other SUVs in its class. Stuck between the 2018 Explorer and the 2018 Dodge Durango? Both SUVs offer similar features, but we promise you’ll love the Explorer—test drive one at Sheridan Ford today!

Performance

When you choose the Explorer, you get to choose from three powerful engines each paired with a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission.

  • 5-L Ti-VCT V6 engine: Delivers 290 HP and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. EPA-estimated 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway1
  • 3-L EcoBoost® engine: Delivers 280 HP and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. EPA-estimated 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway1
  • 5-L EcoBoost® engine: Delivers 365 HP and 350 lb.-ft or torque. EPA-estimated 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway1

Ford’s EcoBoost® engines and SelectShift® transmissions were engineered and optimized for Ford vehicles, and you won’t find them in the 2018 Dodge Durango.

With the Class III Trailer Tow Package (which requires either a 3.5-L Ti-VCT V6 engine or a 3.5-L EcoBoost® engine), your Ford can tow up to 5,000 lbs. Dreaming of a new boat, jet ski or pop-up camper? Well, you can easily haul it for a weekend getaway with this Ford SUV.

If you’ve opted for the 3.5-L EcoBoost® engine in the Explorer Sport model, the scenic route is always an option. If equipped with Intelligent 4WD and the Terrain Management System™, take on any road no matter how snowy, sandy or rocky.

Safety

The Ford Safe and Smart™ Package is second to none when it comes to safety. The Durango simply cannot compete. This is optional on most models, and standard on the Platinum model. Driving is a serious business; having extra “eyes” around the SUV to alert you to what you don’t see will allow you to drive safely with confidence. The following features2 are included with this package:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning with brake support
  • Automatic high beam headlamps
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System)3 with cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-keeping system
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers

In the event of a collision, 7 standard airbags will deploy to help mitigate any injuries.

Cargo and Comfort

The 2018 Explorer is also a great SUV for a road trip. With seating for up to 7 people, it begs you to take it out for a drive with your family or friends, and all their belongings. If the car is packed, you still have 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. With the third row folded down, you’ve bumped it up it 43.9 cubic feet. You can create a flat floor by folding the second and third rows down to an impressive 81.7 cubic feet.

Technology

Enjoy the endless possibilities that come with SYNC®3 technology. Voice-activated and responsive, make phone calls, reply to text messages and change what you’re listening to without looking away from the road or using your hands. SYNC®3 does not allow for distractions and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay™  and Android Auto™.

Download the FordPass™ smartphone application to compare gas prices, find parking, schedule service and contact a trained Ford guide with any questions you may have.

SYNC 3® and FordPass™ are not available with the Dodge Durango.
